What is an SUD?

A substance use disorder (SUD) is a treatable, chronic disease characterized by a cluster of cognitive, behavioral, and physiological symptoms indicating that the individual continues using the substance despite significant substance-related problems.1 In 2022, more than one in six Americans aged 12 or older reported experiencing a SUD.2

SUDs can lead to significant problems in all aspects of a person’s life. Patterns of symptoms resulting from substance use (drugs or alcohol) can help a doctor diagnose a person with a SUD or SUDs and connect them to appropriate treatment.

For certain drug types, some symptoms are less prominent, and in some cases, not all symptoms apply. For example, withdrawal symptoms are not specified for inhalant use.

SUDs can range in severity from mild to severe and can affect people of any race, gender, income level, or social class. A SUD can be applied to the following types of drugs:1

What is intensive outpatient treatment (IOP)?

Intensive outpatient treatment is a structured, non-residential program that offers a comprehensive level of care for individuals dealing with substance use disorders. It involves a combination of therapy, counseling, and support while allowing participants to continue with their daily lives.

Do you accept insurance, and what are the payment options for intensive outpatient treatment?

We accept various insurance plans, and our admissions team can assist in verifying coverage. Additionally, we offer flexible payment options and financial assistance for those without insurance coverage. Please note, we do not accept Medi-cal patients in California currently.

Who is a good candidate for intensive outpatient treatment?

IOP is suitable for individuals who require a higher level of support than traditional outpatient services but do not need 24-hour supervision. It’s an excellent option for those with moderate addiction issues or as a step-down from residential treatment.

What services are offered in an intensive outpatient program?

Our IOP in both Los Gatos, CA includes group and individual therapy, counseling, psychoeducation, relapse prevention, and support group participation. Our programs are designed to address the unique needs of each participant. For more information on our treatments and services,
